I was in Oxford a couple of days ago for the Oxford Fringe, doing a WIP (work in progress) for my new show ‘PASTA COMEDIAN’ (Pasta Comedian). ‘PASTA COMEDIAN’ is a show all about pasta, for an entire hour. No puns - just profound, hilarious observations about pasta. And you know what, the nerds in Oxford ate it up! This is the thing - people are hungry. They’re starving for pasta comedy right now, and I’m the only one out here offering it. I’m not going to lie - it’s not going to be for everybody, but you have to admit - I am the only one doing it. And that counts for something, doesn’t it?
As I walked down the highstreet toward the venue, I couldn’t believe the amount of pasta restaurants there were. Spaghetti House, Bella Italia, Ask Italian. Not to mention all the dried stuff I found in their local supermarkets. If comedy is about finding the universal that unites us all, how come nobody has cottoned on to pasta-comedy yet? Even those who can’t eat real pasta for dietary reasons can still eat the gluten-free horrible kind (and those that don’t eat it can still appreciate pasta for its diversity of colours and shapes).
And there are SO SO many FUNNY!!! things about pasta. It's an intrinsically funny food, when you think about it. And no, I’m not going to elaborate on why that is right now, you’ll have to come and see it for yourself!
Various producers, colleagues, close friends and some family members have begged me not to go down this path of pasta-based stand up comedy, and I am going to prove them ALL wrong. They keep telling me ‘you’re destroying the image and reputation you’ve built on the circuit up to now’ but it’s so painfully obvious how bitter and jealous and thick they all are. It’s very eye opening discovering who your true friends are and who’s a snake in the grass!!!
The show is solid. People love it because they love me, and they love pasta and the way I talk about it.
If you don’t believe me, you should just come and see it for yourself. You can see it here on the 22nd on July at the King’s Head Theatre:
