I’ve had my bee in a bonnet over the past couple of days about this new Channel 4 program set to come out called ‘Gender Wars’ which features Kathleen Stock. I won’t go into details about what it is, because there’s not much point - it’s obvious. Both sides of the debate etc.
I think the reason I was so wound up about it, as opposed to other examples of this kind of stuff on other channels, is because I was invited to a ‘Diversity Panel’ for Channel 4 late last year, specially regarding trans representation on Channel 4. It was filmed, and used internally - and one of my main points during it, was that we need less of the above - and more stories written and made by trans people. So, this program feels a bit like a slap in the face.
I’ve done things for Channel 4, and I’ve always given them props as being the best out there for diversity, generally. But, as someone who is actively pitching and writing and pursuing in this field, it does give me pause for thought because it’s such a laughable misstep. Anyway, I won’t go on and on about it as I’m kind of sick of thinking about it now, but I put all my thoughts on it in a little video, which you can watch here:
