I’ve been pretty busy lately, so haven’t had a real chance to do an entry. First off, I went to Mach-Festival in Wales to do a preview of my show “Peak Trans” which went great. I had a full room, and the vibes were good. After the preview, I suddenly had a new idea about how to end it - which is in part frustrating as it came a bit late, but mainly it’s a great thing - because who’s to say if I’d have arrived at it without that preview? Anyway, I’m super keen to get back to doing previews so I can take the new version for a spin.
Wales is unimaginably beautiful. I was lucky enough to be staying in an air b&b cottage with fellow comics Will Duggan, his fiancé Becca, Rob Copeland and William Stone. We spent most of our time out in the centre of town, seeing shows, drinking and getting up to mischief with familiar faces - but a lot of my fondest memories are in the cottage, laughing until we couldn’t breath at Will doing a stupid voice, or Rob burning his socks in the fire. A lovely, elderly gardener named Cecil recommended a short scenic walk to us, and myself, Billy and Rob went up to see the view - which was unbelievable. It truly made me realise why people pine for a more simple life. I don’t know if it’s something I could do for too long, but I definitely want to see more natural beauty over the next few years.
When we got back, I had to start packing and moving to the new flat - which has been pretty exhausting. I hate moving, and I feel like I am doing it every 6 months to a year. The only upside to it is, it always makes me realise that I owe it to myself to downscale and ditch a bunch of unneeded possessions. I don’t really have a “collector” sensibility. I don’t ascribe value to items much, but there are a few exceptions. Like a lot of people, I find it hard to throw away books. It isn’t because I want to keep them though, it’s just because I can’t read them as quickly as I buy them. Whenever I finish a book, I give it away immediately. But I’m not the fastest reader, and I find myself more and more often falling asleep as I try. I was pretty ruthless this time around though - I got rid of a load of shit.
In the end though, I did have to book a small moving van. I did it on Gumtree, which I am always hesitant to do, but it’s so much cheaper than the big companies. But I don’t think I’ve ever used Gumtree without playing out a scenario in my head where I get kidnapped and murdered.
